ad explorer - sbs 2011
Hi.
I have tested the AD explorer with great success, but I am having trouble with a few SBS 2011 servers.
I get an error message when i try to open ntfs.dit or sbsntfs.dit file.
The following error message occurs :
"The specified database is not supported. Probably, the database you are trying to open is a distribution copy and does not contain your domain information. Please browse to your domain controller database".
The veeamserver is runing Windows Server 2012 R2 with Veeam 7 patch 4 and the latest cumulative patches from the ad beta.

Re: ad explorer - sbs 2011
just an update, I actually get this error on all the ad explorer i try to do now. Is there something in the patch 4 which could have caused this? worked just fine with patch 3. Cant think of any other changes I have done.

Frank, are you saying you've started experiencing this error after installing the latest Veeam B&R patch, while you could successfully open the same databases prior to that?
Just to be sure, which database file are you trying to open?

Hi frankive,
it looks like you are trying to open the empty distribution copy of the Active Directory database. Just to be sure, could you please check the following registry path on your domain controller, this will point you to the correct ntds.dit
Thanks.

Re: ad explorer - sbs 2011
AD Explorer is currently in beta, so it is a completely separate code base and installation. Thus, it cannot be affected by B&R patches.

You are of course right, I was opening the wrong ntfs.dit file... It should be the c:\windows\ntds\ntds.dit file and not the c:\windows\system32\ntfs.dit on my servers...
Thanks!
Thanks!
