Add vms to a running virtual lab?

Post by gmoliken »

I have a virtual lab with 6 vms, but most of the time only 3 are used. The lab is scheduled to start up each night with only the 3 vms that are used most often. The issue is that when I need all 6, I’m having to restart the entire lab which #1 takes a long time and #2 wipes out any changes that were made to the original 3 vms. Ideally, I would be able to boot the additional 3 vms into the existing lab. Is this possible or are there any other options other than including all 6 and shutting down the 3 that aren't needed?

You could just "Instant Restore" them into the lab. Basically when you perform the IR process just connect them to the isolated switch instead of the production network. If it's something you have to do often you could script it with PowerShell.
