Adding a NetApp/IBM NSeries Filer as a Linux Server

Post by stevil »

This may be a daft question, but is it possible to add a NetApp/IBM NSeries Filer to VB&R as a Linux Server?
I've actually tried the above, while it does appear to add the NAS to the list of servers, I get the error "Error: (mkdir not found. Type '?' for a list of commands, answer: " when I try to expand / view the folder structure within it.

Cheers

Hello Steve,

My guess, you are getting this error because of unsufficient rights - you need root account to allow B&R to install small agent on target - to get better performance.

Another option to use the device is to specify path to its shared folders as backup desination. Hope this helps!

Yeah I'm using a CIFS share at the moment, and getting pretty dire performance. I'm guessing it's the way the NAS has been configured though. Not sure what the architecture is on this NAS, or if the agent works with it, probably not :)

Do you have a rootkit for this device? If yes, adding as Linux target might work.

Netapp filers run an OS called Data Ontap, they do not run Linux. They serve NFS filesystems for Linux clients.
