after upgrade to VBR 10A - service don't start

Post by mashme »

Veeam Support - Case # 04452567

I upgraded a VeeamBackup&Replication_10.0.0.4461_20200401 to version VeeamBackup&Replication_10.0.1.4854_20200723 on a Windows Server 2012R2 and receive the error message ""Failed to start service VeeamCatalogScV" and can no longer connect to the VB console. When I try to start the "Veam Guest Catalog Service" manually I receive an exception "error 1064".

From this veeam-backup-replication-f2/after-v9-u2 ... 36953.html I learned that missing rights for the Microsoft SQL Server during installation could cause this failure. We use Microsoft SQL 2026 with VBR.

Acoording to the thread above the Veeam Service Account must have the permission VIEW SERVER STATE on MS SQL Server.
I found a how to: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/t- ... rver-ver15

Is this worth a try? I don*t want to fiddle around.

1064 means an exception occurred while starting the service.

Have you had a look at the logs in %programdata%\Veeam\Backup\Svc.VeeamCatalog.log ? The Application event log in event viewer might show the exception too.

Hello mashme,

The described behavior is not expected. Please keep working with the support team and let us know how the investigation goes. Cheers!

Dear DRoN,

thank you for the for the link to the Svc.VeeamCatalog.log !

The log error is:
[21.10.2020 10:37:55] <04> Error Failed to start service
[21.10.2020 10:37:55] <04> Error Attribute "LastSyncTimeUtc" was not found under the tree "". (System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException)

I found a knowledge base article. It describes a simple solution: https://www.veeam.com/kb2775 that I followed and than rerun the upgrade installation.

VBR 10a is back to work!
