Alma Linux 9.4

Post by mikaeln »

Hi,

system requirements page lists just 9.3 as the supported version of Alma Linux (for example for backup proxy which is our interest at the time):
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ckup-proxy

9.3 is end of life and 9.4 is the supported version (as per Alma policy):
“Version 9 will have active support until 31 May 2027, and security support until 31 May 2032. Each minor version reaches end of life when the new version is released. For example, AlmaLinux 9.2 reached end of life with the release of AlmaLinux 9.3.”
https://wiki.almalinux.org/release-notes/

9.3 no longer receive security updates so we can't run it.
Can we assume that running the latest supported Alma is supported by Veeam?

Best regards,
Mikael

Hi, we're no longer testing Alma for backup infrastructure roles based on QA resources considerations so I recommend that you switch to Rocky (or another supported distribution) going forward. Thanks

Thanks for the quick update Gostev.
I think I've missed that update (I at least did not find it when searching the forum) so it would be good to have an update on the System Requirements page to reflect that Alma no longer is tested/supported.

We will make this change in V13, until then we will continue supporting Alma 9.3 because its support was previously declared for V12. Also, from what I heard there are no issues with vanilla Alma 9.4 either (it was tested as a part of 12.2 release cycle). However, going forward Alma is no longer a part of any QA labs which means if future Alma updates (including security updates) break something in 9.4 that affects Veeam then you're on your own.
