Ambiguity in OS version support.

Post by Gaffer »

The release notes for Veeam backup and replication state that:

Microsoft Windows 2003 SP2

Is supported.

Now, SP2 can be applied to either vanilla Win 2003 or to Win 2003 R2.

And I have a server with Win 2003 R2.

Does Veeam support both:

Microsoft Windows 2003 with SP2
Microsoft Windows 2003 R2 with SP2

Or are these both the same thing anyway?

Yes, they are the same. 2003 R2 components come on 2nd disk, and their install is actually optional when you are deploying 2003 with SP2 (you are asked to insert CD when you complete "main" OS setup). It is kind of confusing, because this is not the case with 2008 R2, which is "integrated".
