Hi All...So we currently have a customer with Veeam BDR and O365 and all is well so we have an infrastructure in place. However, they have (3) Mac's on their network for marketing with about 6 TB of storage between them and it is growing. At present they are using Apple Time Machine to backup data to rotating drives and are handling it all manually. They would like to consolidate their backups to a centralized backup repo and then replicate it to another site or cloud. Initially we were thinking of dropping in a Synology Nas and setting it up as a time machine target on the network and then have a sister NAS at one of their remote locations and use NAS to NAS replication. However, I was thinking of how we might want to leverage Veeam and have the following questions:
#1) Would Veeam VBR be able to backup a NAS that is currently setup as an Apple Time Machine Target? File types, file system types, etc?
#2) To confirm, Veeam NAS Backup would consume 1 license per 500GB of storage (we are on rental license). So for 6TB we would be looking at 12 points..Correct?
#3) And if 1 and 2 are feasible would be be possible to push that NAS backup data to Object Storage using Wasabi, etc?
#4) Should we just get rid of Time Machine and install an Veeam Backup Agent on the Macs and target their existing Repo?
Thanks for any feedback.
Dave

Re: Another NAS backup question - Object
Hi Dave
It depends. If you can provide NFS or SMB Share to Veeam where this files are readable, then you can use a Veeam File Share Backup Job to backup the share and it files/folders.#1) Would Veeam VBR be able to backup a NAS that is currently setup as an Apple Time Machine Target? File types, file system types, etc?
It's 10 points per 500GB (best to check in VSPC Pulse). So with 6TB, you have to use 12*10 points = 120 Rental Points.#2) To confirm, Veeam NAS Backup would consume 1 license per 500GB of storage (we are on rental license). So for 6TB we would be looking at 12 points..Correct?
V11 only allows to send older file versions and deleted files to object storage. With V12, you can send all backed up files to object storage.#3) And if 1 and 2 are feasible would be be possible to push that NAS backup data to Object Storage using Wasabi, etc?
Using Veeam Agent for Mac would allow you to use the existing SOBR and will save you a lot of rental points. And you have to manage only one backup solution instead of two.#4) Should we just get rid of Time Machine and install an Veeam Backup Agent on the Macs and target their existing Repo?

Re: Another NAS backup question - Object
Thanks again! I do not believe we would be able to present NFS or SMB shares to veeam to backup an Apple Time Machine backup store. They use APFS as their TM file system. Good news on V12. We are really looking forward to V12 for many other reasons as well.
Good point on the MAC agents. We can just add some storage to our existing BDR and target that from the MAC's. I like this idea since everything is under one roof.
Thanks again

Re: Another NAS backup question - Object
I am just reading up on the MAC Agent and this seems like the way to go for sure. We can build out the BDR to add another repo. It does seem like we can push it to our VCC cloud provider but going to Object is what we want to do for this situation.

Yes, with the mac agent, vcc and object storage is possible.
For NAS backups, vcc will not be possible as a target.
