Re: Any closer to an ETA for Veeam v10 ?
But yes, we plan to have support for S3-compatible storage right in the first iteration of this feature. Thanks!

Hi Gostev,
can you share any timeline on vcloud director Support as a Cloud connect replication target?
Anthony spiteri: shared some insights around a year ago: https://anthonyspiteri.net/veeam-draas- ... r-support/
Thanks,
Ruben

Ruben, it is also scheduled for the next update... and almost made it into the previous one, actually. Thanks!

Going back to S3-compatible storage, can someone please explain the difference between S3 compatible storage in V10 and AWS VTL supported in the current version?

Re: Any closer to an ETA for Veeam v10 ?
First disclosure of the actual technology will happen at VeeamON 2018, but I can tell the difference is like between an LED lamp and a candle. AWS VTL is largely unusable in real world, and in fact our original implementation of object storage support was only marginally better, so we scrapped it completely. The new implementation is much more bandwidth and space efficient, and also quite unique in the way that it is completely transparent instead of being a bolt-on. I am actually super excited about this particular feature due to how innovative it is.

Good to know. We were planning on evaluating AWS VTL shortly, but now that you say that, I wonder if we should wait and suffer with tapes for a while longer.

It really depends on your data volume as well as your question speed to Amazon.

Re: Any closer to an ETA for Veeam v10 ?
Looking at 15TB/month of full backups and needing to be kept for 8 years. Incrementals are about 200-300GB per month. Growth rate of 5% per year, max.

Re: Any closer to an ETA for Veeam v10 ?
You left out your internet upload speed. 15TB/month doesn't sound like too much, but if you have, for example, only a 100Mb Internet link, that suddenly becomes 384 hours/~16 days of full saturation which might not be sustainable, but if you have a 1Gb Internet link it's not even two days. Also, you need to do the math to determine the costs on the storage side. For example, the AWS VTL supports easy offload to Glacier, which is the cheapest storage tier at, I believe, around $0.004/GB right now in the lowest costs regions but, assuming you're keeping that monthly 15TB every month for 8 years, by the time you get to that 8 year mark, even if 100% of it is offloaded to Glacier, you'd still be spending ~$5600/mo to store 1.44PB of data, and that's not even including your 5% data growth.

[MERGED] Veeam B&R v10 ETA
Hoping that a product manager can provide an ETA for when Veeam B&R v10 is likely to drop. We currently have some outstanding issues with our v9.5 environment and the ETA of when v10 is released will determine if we update to latest release of v9.5 or upgrade directly to v10.

Can I please ask where V10 is at? its now Mid 2018 and we have made many promises to our business regarding Veeam that 8 months later we still cant deliver namely
- Backup to Azure Blob (to get rid of our tapes) "Scale-Out Backup Repository Archive Tier"
and or
- DRaaS to Azure

I too would like to know. I'll quote my account manager from 12/09/2017 - 'Veeam 10 is just around the corner'
Of particular interest, and discussion, was the upcoming AWS S3 object support in scale-out repos that was 'real soon now'
And no, N2Ws isn't the answer I want.

Hi Gostev,
in your last digest you mentioned update3a.
Will this feature be integrated?
vcloud director Support as a Cloud connect replication target?

Hi Ruben, this feature won't be in update 3a. Update 3a is aimed at specific platform support and minor enhancements and bug fixes.

Hi,
is there meanwhile any idea when full RMAN Integration (plugin?!) will be released? It's causing us quite a pain currently so it would be nice to get a rough idea..
thanks!

That's great to hear. Any timelines on the CIFS backup to disk/tape feature?

We have CIFS to tape backup for a few versions now with File to Tape jobs. It's even free - you don't need a license to do this! And we may also release NDMP to Tape as a part of Update 4, in case your NAS supports that. The rest is further away, so too early for me to give timelines yet.

Re: Any closer to an ETA for Veeam v10 ?
Thanks. I should have been more clear. My question was more around NAS backup support, particularly with larger workloads (20TB+).

Are there any informations available on how the NDMP implementation could look like?Gostev wrote:We have CIFS to tape backup for a few versions now with File to Tape jobs. Re: Any closer to an ETA for Veeam v10 ?
We're talking basic NDMP to tape dumps, nothing special - exactly as NDMP was designed to be used. We should have Update 4 beta in a few weeks, and you will be able to test that yourself. Blog posts with more details on the upcoming features will start appearing closer to GA, as we don't want to promote future functionality too early.

Hi Gostev,
could you kindly confirm ndmp to virtual tape library will work or does it have to be a physical tape library?
Thank you!

One more question, will this be available with Enterprise or Enterprise Plus license ?
Thanks!

Re: Any closer to an ETA for Veeam v10 ?
Please don't include NDMP only in the Enterprise Plus Edition.
Most customers I can think of have only a single NAS device which would be backuped via NDPM; E+ would be too expensive if no further features are needed.

Well, such small customers can just use File to Tape backup jobs even today, which are arguably even better - because unlike NDMP, it provides for file level recovery.
