Anyone have a tool to recover single email in Exchange?
As far as using Veeam in a IBM Lotus Domino environment I've managed to work around the lack of VSS support in Domino and create some pre-freeze, post-thaw scripts that gives me Database-consistent backups/restores.
It's also fairly easy to do single field/document/mail level restores (just have a Notes-client with proper privileges on the Veeam Backup-server and a directory-link).
But, How could one achieve brick-level restore in Exchange under Veeam ?
Any tools that can mount Exchange Data-stores from the mounted Veeam backup-job so that I can restore one user, or one specific email for a user ?

We use Recovery Manager for Exchange from Quest:
http://www.quest.com/recovery-manager-for-exchange/
It's a great tool, and you can use it with Veeam to restore from Veeam rollbacks. Simply start a "File Level Restore" of your Exchange server from within the Veeam GUI, but instead of using the Veeam file browser, just minimize that and open Recovery Manager and point it at your mounted volumes that contain your Exchange store. Product is easy to use and can recover any item including single item, folder, entire mailbox, etc. It also has a nice search feature for exporting items. Oh, and it supports Domino as well.

We have a white-paper talking about how to do this with Veeam, you can get it through support or your sales rep. Not as convenient and fast as with specialized - but hey, it is free and it workssamuk wrote:I will give that a go..

This tools was originally created by the same team as Veeam Software (our previous business, Aelita Software). If Quest did not brake it lately, then I can certainly recommend thistsightler wrote:We use Recovery Manager for Exchange from Quest:

This is a great tool as well (I've personally evaluated this about a year ago, it is very fast and feature rich - I was very impressed and can vouch for it).

Symantec Backup Exec has an add-on component for granular restores of Exchange as well. Its pretty sweet. There are a number of other solutions out there - mainly by smaller companies that specialize in only exchange backups/restores/archiving/etc.

There is also the IBM Tivoli Fastback:

I'm going to try it out as soon as I'm finished with the Veeam Backup setup and configuration.

Don't use Acronis tool. It is very raw.

Re: Anyone have a tool to recover single email in Exchange?
we have the ontrack tool and kroll support is horrible at best. the tool works but they took forever to certify our netbackup server 6.5.4 and it seems like according to the support rep on the phone that they don't test often against different software (i was told 6.5 was tested but 6.5.1+ wasn't officially supported lol. it does work however which is the only reason i submit the PO for support even though the support/upgrades are worthless. i haven't moved exchange over to vmware yet but it will be exciting to see the difference when backing it up with veeam.

Hi dkvello. My company is evaluating Veeam Backup. We are a Domino shop. Would you consider sharing your freeze and thaw scripts for Domino. If we could figure out how to do this for Domino (and other server applications) it would probably solidify our decision to use Veeam to back up our VM's. We don't have anyone at our company with scripting skills. Thanks.

This is actually almost 1 year old thread, I believe whitepaper is removed already as outdated, since we now provide our own Exchange Application Item Recovery wizard (albeit still in beta as of today).

Robinsan, this thread is already from 2009 so I'm sure the original poster has already moved on and discovered Veeam Explorer for Exchange.
