application aware backups for Linux and SQL Servers
Looking to see if there is a way to do application aware backups for Linux VMs that have MS SQL Server with Veeam?
With linux not really having VSS / VSS writers to make sure in flight transactions are written to disk, wondering if this can be done? Obviously, backups to the local disk and then backing that up with Veeam, but other than doing that?

Re: application aware backups for Linux and SQL Servers
Hi James.
I am not sure if MS SQL on Linux supports dbcc freeze_IO\thaw_IO(worth a check!), so best approach would be SQL-native local backup(via scheduled task or sqlcmd script) and VM level backup with Veeam. Entire process can be automated using build in feature in Veeam to run pre-job script(create local backup file on a server) and post-job script(delete local backup file to save space).
That way you will have both of two worlds - an image based backup of entire SQL VM with 100% consistent MS SQL DB backup on it's disk.
/Cheers!

+1 Are there are any current plans to support SQL on Linux through application aware processing with Veeam? Current workaround notwithstanding, automatic integrations are just so much better.

Hey Thomas, there are no short-term plans for this feature, so scripting should be a way to go. Thanks!
