Apply retention for backup job without running backup?

Post by lolbebis »

Hi,
Is it possible to just apply retention for a backupjob without backing up the servers?

When we make changes to backup jobs, move them to another scale out repository for instance.
I usually make a clone of the job, start a new chain on the other repo and disable the old job.

Now I have to wait 30 days ( if that is the retention policy) before I can delete the old job.

Would it be possible to just apply the retention policy on the old job to get som disk space back faster?

Hello,
as of today (V10), retention is only applied when a job runs.

In V11, we will also apply GFS retention for example if the job was deleted.

Best regards,
Hannes

[MERGED] Feature Request: Reprocess Retention Policy without running backup

Post by StoopidMonkey »

I would like the ability to make changes to a backup job's retention policy and process that policy immediately to free up disk space WITHOUT having to run a new backup job, especially during business hours. Is that do-able?

Hi Chris, this is currently not possible but we keep tracking the number of similar requests. Thanks!

I would like to put my +1 on that. There are many times I would have had use for this. Preferrably with a preview of what will be deleted.
