Archive full every 15 days
Hi all,
I have a job with one vm:
- daily backup at a specific time
- full once a week (sunday)
- restore points 7
- forward incremental
I'm a bit confused about doing this part: a full backup to archive every 15 days (1st and 3rd sunday) and after 4 "15-days", the old one should be deleted.
Now, I've made two Backup copy as secondary target with
- restore points: 2
- monthly backup: 1st job -> 1st sunday, 2nd job -> 3rd sunday
but I don't think that's the best way to do it, and maybe that's not correct too.
Any help?
Thanks

Hi Keiichi. I should ask what is your expectation of the word archive?
Why I ask is Veeam doesn't use the term as in the industry it implies additional characteristics.
But what I think you are looking for is the following:
Backup job: 7 restore points, runs daily.
Backup copy: keeps a full backup every 15 days and 3 of those (older)
But what is the logic of the 15? I want to look at the Veeam Backup Copy job and GFS retention to see if that or a combination of PowerShell can get you sorted out.

Maybe I got confused.
Probably add a full every 15 days with retention 4 will do what I need..

Re: Archive full every 15 days
You cannot create GFS archive every 15 day, so, there are three options left for you:
- you can use your current approach
- you can stick to weekly GFS (archive restore point will be created on weekly, instead of bi-weekly basis)
- you can disable a backup copy job and write a PS script that will execute active full cycle for given backup copy job and disable it afterwards. The script will need to be scheduled via Windows Scheduler
Thanks!

Re: Archive full every 15 days
You should be able to achieve what you want with a single backup copy job, if you set the copy interval to 14 days, retention to keep 2 restore points, enable the "Read from source..." check box and schedule weekly backups on the same day the copy interval starts - there will be no increments in the chain in this case and full restore point will be offloaded on a bi-weekly schedule.

I like Foggy's answer best!! The 2 restore points keeps the full and the (day) next!
