Archive specific VMs to USB Drive

Post by BrianBuchanan »

Hi there,

I've also opened case 04549655 because there must be something I'm missing here.

I'm working on a project to copy a final backup of several VMs to a USB drive before deleting them.

I'm stuck on how to get these specific VMs to the USB drive.

I've started with Export Backup function, which lets me select the VMs and restore points, and the exports end up on the source repository. How do I get these from there to the USB drive?

I added the desktop with the USB drive to Veeam Backup Infrastructure, and added a repository backed by rotating hard drives.

I'm now trying a file copy job. It looks like I can choose any file or folder on the source repository, not just backup files. And the destination is just the drive letter on a machine in the Backup Infrastructure.

Am I on the right path here?

Hi Brian, you can either copy the exported backups manually or use the Files node/file copy job for that purpose.

Thank-you. I haven't used the file copy job before but it looks like it's going to work. Thanks!

Is there a way that Export Backup could utilize XFS Fast Block Clone?

No, currently Export doesn't use block cloning, as it was designed to create a standalone, independent backup file.
