Average performance rate: backup/restore

i have one ESX4 server connected to a iSCSI disk bay.
the avg performance rate for backup is around 20 MB/s

the performance for restore is around 50 MB/s

why a so big difference between backup and restore ?
what should i do to improve perf ?
