How can Veeam be used in conjunction with the AWS Storage Gateway and their new Gateway-VTL (Volume Tape Library) to best utilize the S3/Glacier storage for GFS retention?

Also; How are backups encrypted when moved to AWS and who has the SSL encryption keys?

Hi Kellen,

Please check out this link for the AWS Storage Gateway question. As to the virtual tape library configuration, then you need to make this device is visible in the Windows devices snap-in of your backup server. Once this step is accomplished, it should be possible to use this device as a target for our backup to tape jobs.

As far as I know, the AWS Storage Gateway does encrypt all data coming from and to AWS via SSL. Thanks.

Hi All,

As I don't see any updated steps, I would like to share the below regarding the integration steps:

Just spent two days working on the configuration (learning and testing), and after this exercise I can happily state that Veeam works just fine with AWS VTL and VTS (Virtual Tape Shelf) and I love it . The configuration is so simple, and below are the steps:
1. Download and import the Storage gateway from AWS (VTL).
2. Configure local and AWS storage gateway (VTL Device Type: STK-L700).
3. Create the VTL Tape Cartridges on AWS.
4. Connect the Storage gateway to a Veeam server (iSCSI).
5. Medium Changer device: Sony TSL-A500C Autoloader.
6. Add the Tape library on the Veeam server (GUI).
7. If you wish to use Virtual Tape Shelf then create Veeam Media Vault (remember: long time for tape retrieval from AWS side).
