I want to take an Backup for Azure backup stored in Azure blob and replicate it to a Veeam repo (SOBR or NAS/DAS). Mainly for DR and/or cyber protection - I want an extra copy stored on-prem preferably on immutable storage.
I believe that can be done according to earlier posts, but need clarification on how and where that replication is configured. e.g. is it done as a BCJ within the VB&R console assuming the Backup for Azure plugin is installed?
And is it possible to recover that Azure VM/Azure SQL backup replication COPY directly back to the original source, or does it need to go back to the original Azure Blob first?
Thank you for any insights.

Re: Azure Backup replication to SOBR and recovery options
Hi Steve

The plugin is only required to manage the Veeam Backup for Azure appliance within the VBR console.
Copying backups is also possible without the plugin. I recommend to use the plugin to have an overview of the Azure backup jobs in your backup server. When you connect to the VB4Azure appliance with the plugin, the external repository gets connected automatically.

I suggest you use a general purpose server with local attached disks with Linux as a hardened repository. This will make your backups immutable.replicate it to a Veeam repo (SOBR or NAS/DAS). You need to add the blob storage container as an external repository to the VBR server. Then you can create a backup copy job to copy backups from the external repository to your SOBR.is it done as a BCJ within the VB&R console assuming the Backup for Azure plugin is installed?

It‘s not a copy back to the source repository. You can only restore a vm directly from the copy Location as an Azure VM.And is it possible to recover that Azure VM/Azure SQL backup replication COPY directly back to the original source, or does it need to go back to the original Azure Blob first?
