B&R - AD Restore error

Post by mdmd »

Hi all,

Updated our Veeam infrastructure to Veeam B&R 9 and everything went perfect, all jobs seem to be working dine.

However when I'm trying to restore an object from a DC using The Veeam Explorer fir AD. I select the backup date and when it comes to mount it says :

"The specified database cannot be opened on the OS version"

Our backup server is on Windows 2008 R2, out DCs are all 2012 but it always worked before?

Any help would be great

Thanks

MIke

Hi Mike, not sure why it did work previously, the requirement for opening a database file with Veeam Explorer for Active Directory is to have it installed on the same or higher OS version than the backed up domain controller has.

Oh darn, it sure did work before!

OK so maybe another topic. Would it be just as simple as Backup Veeam configuration files. Wipe OS drive. Install 2012. Install Veeam. Restore config files......... :P

You can even perform an in-place OS upgrade. But backing up Veeam B&R configuration prior to that wouldn't definitely hurt.

Thanks Foggy, have to be honest I'm always skeptical with in place upgrades, especially with SQL on. Have you seen this done successfully on a server with Veeam on?

But ill go ahead and take a backup first, I could always go back to plan B above I suppose.

Thanks again
