Hi there, I am testing Veeam Backup and replication community edition and wondering how to behave in case of a disaster. For instance, say that the physical machines running Hyper-V Hosts and Guests are stolen, and you're left with the backup on a NAS, created by Veeam Backup and replication.
How would you restore the VMs once you have installed Hyper-V hosts and installed fresh new Backup & Replication?
I guess there is an option to restore from files, even though the catalogue is missing?

Re: B & R disaster recovery?
Hello,
yes, if you add the NAS as again to the new VBR server, the backups will appear as "imported" in the backups section. Or you can also restore the configuration backup.
From first hand experience I can say that NAS systems are also stolen if somebody steals computers... With a paid license, I would recommend to use external copy, for example with capacity tier to a hyperscaler cloud provider or a Veeam cloud service provider with cloud connect.
Best regards,
Hannes

Thanks for your detailed explanation. What is the cheapest cloud backup config I should look for our scenario?

Veeam Backup Essentials (VUL) 5er Package.
For the Veeam License, I think, It‘s around 400-500 $ per Year.
