B&R on vSphere Windows VM. SAN = MSA 2000fc how to?

Post by johanb2b »

Hi,

I did an install of Veeam Backup & Replication on a virtual Windows server running in our vSphere4 enviroment. Our SAN is a HP MSA2000fc with HBAs connected to each ESX (HP Proliant 380).

The ESX-LUNs are not visible from the Veeambackup. I get this error when running backup:

"Direct SAN connection is not available, failing over to network mode..."

I know that i need LUN access from the Veeam machine. But how do i solve this? I saw something about enabling NPIV but what i can find NPIV and RDM does not work with VmWare LUNs.

Is the solution to install a new physical server with Windows and Veeam connected to the SAN with HBAs directly?
