Backing up fileserver running DFSR
Hello,
I have a large file server in our main office that is a virtual machine. Currently the server has two RDM's for its data stores, however, I am willing to to a V2V on this box to get those RDMs back into vmdk's. It is being backed up using BackupExec 12.5d; The backups take close to 20 hours to complete. This is really unacceptable. I am wondering if the Veeam VSS integration knows how to talk to the DFSR VSS writer and if there is ay experience here in the forums at backing up a DFSR file server using Veeam. We use Veeam to back up all of our servers except the file server due to the RDMs & the DFSR. If i could get all our backups run through Veeam and just backup the veeam files to tape with BE12.5d that would make my life so much easier.
Thanks for you help!

Re: Backing up fileserver running DFSR
Hello, this should work just fine. Veeam VSS will notify all installed system VSS writers about backup being taken (even including 3rd party VSS writers). DFSR VSS writer is no exception. Just don't forget to remove Symantec agent after migration, as I've seen customers reporting system VSS freeze issues due to 3rd party backup agents installed. Thanks!

Must say I've the same problem with a perfectly fresh 2008R2 VM. It's a fileserver, so I just removed VSS and quiescence, but it's not the best way...
