Backup a Server with local credentials

Post by GianlucaCroci »

Hello,

Our Veeam servers are in domain, but we'd like to remove them, for a discourse of increased security at the backup level.

Now I've to backup the SAP HANA server via Agent and I'd like to create local credentials (on the Veeam server) and use these, so that when we leave the domain we'll not have to re-enter the credentials for these servers.

On the Veeam server I've created a user and now I'd like to use it by inserting it into Veeam, but I can't.

Having had experience with other software that if in domain didn't allow to use local users, I prefer to stop and ask if I'm proceeding correctly or I perform an impossible operation as long as it is in domain.

Thank's in advance for the help.
Kind regards

Hi Gianluca

When you say „ now I'd like to use it by inserting it into Veeam, but I can't“ what exactly rondos mean.
Can you please provide some screenshots so we bitter understand where you want to add which credentials?

Thanks

Hello,
At the moment I only created the user in "Local Users and Groups", on the main Veeam computer (Windows).
I think then that I'll have to add it in the rights to the Repository, first of all, on the Veeam server under "Users and Roles" putting it as Backup Operator.
It's incorrect? Should I should add it?

Thanks

Hi again,

yes, the user needs access to the Repo and it will work with local credentials (see screenshot):

Other that you can follow the following two links:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110

Thanks

Let me know

I wanted to do the same thing from the console on my computer, and it doesn't work. Since it uses another language, I connected directly to the server and did the same steps so I could copy the error into English. Instead it worked.

Is this all there is to it? meaning, give access to the Repository.

I had already found the page on how to configure in SAP HANA, but thanks for giving me the link (better twice than none :-) )

Glad you found it out how to use the local users ;-)
the case may be that it didn't work as the console was not searching the Veeam server but you local pc (not sure haven't tried it yet).

that is the only point where you add an account for access correct.
You should be able to try now if access and backup still works (if not you can always change it back to the domain one you currently use)

let me know

Hello,
when the consultant execute the command "SapBackintConfigTool --wizard", after entering the "Veeam server name", "port", "username" and "password", get the error
Failed to get repository from backup server: check if the specified account has permissions to access this repository.
Strangely enough, he hasn't chosen a repository yet.

I under "Backup Infrastructure" -> "Scale-out Repositories", I chose the Scale-out, and then in "Access permissions ..." I added the local user.

I also tried adding the user in "Users and Roles" as "Veeam backup Operator", but nothing has changed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks again

Hi again,

if the specific use is set both in the repo as well as in Users and Roles it should just be fine.
In case it doesn't work I'd like to ask you to open a support case at our support so they can have a look and check the logs.
Please also share the Case ID here as it will allow me to have a look as well.

Thanks

We’ve found the problem.

We'd like to use a Repository that had enabled the Encryption, but this is not compatible
Veeam Plug-ins cannot send backups or backup copies to a repository where encryption is enabled.
I’ve created a new one without Encryption, and now we can backup.

Also the user in "Users and Roles" have to be "Veeam Backup Operator" and "Veeam Restore Operator"
