Backup Browser window shows only state of full backup

Post by Stuhl » Jun 25, 2009 2:06 pm

I have made several backups of a virtual machine after each other. That means one full and several following backups. Then I have tried to recover a file that I have put into a directory in the VM before a backup after the full backup. This file is not visible in the Backup Browser if I select the restore point of the backup. The Backup Browser shows the state of the VM after the full backup not after any follwing backup. I have tried this with different changes in the VM (delete a file, change a file) and after each change I made a backup.
It does not matter which restore point I select to restore a file the Backup Browser only shows the state of the VM after the full backup. It seems that there is a bug in the software.

Nevertheless a restore of a entire VM restores the correct state.

Configuration:
Veeam Backup & Replication version 3.1
VMware ESX server version 3.5 update 4

Hello Stefan, this happens when you are using network backup mode, and backing up VM that has existing snapshots.

This peculiarity is documented in the release notes:
  • If a VM has snapshots, Backup Browser mounts the VM file system to the earliest snapshot.
