Hello,
We currently have 1 backup server (Virtual Machine) and 2 backup repositories (Physical Servers with direct attached storage) across 2 different locations.
Every Job have a backup copy counterpart to have 2 copies for each backup.
The problem we have, is if the primary datacenter goes offline, the backup copy job wouldn't be working.
The Backup server can be online in case of one datacenter outage (the VM is stored on a geo cluster) but the backup job are dependent on the primary destination repository availability.
Is there a way to make the backup job to copy to every backup repository available ?
Regards,
Nicolas

Re: Backup copies across 2 datacenters & availability
Hello Nicolas
Correct.
Backup Copy Jobs copies backups from the source backup job.
The repository must be online and reachable. If not, data cannot be copied from this repository.
I assume you want to ask, if a backup copy job can use restore points from any available repository.
This option is currently not available in V12 but will come back in a future version.
In V11 you could create a periodic backup copy job which uses multiple source repositories as a copy source. If one of the repositories is offline, the copy job would copy the restore point from another one. This would only work if the source backup job has created a backup and at least one of the copy jobs already copied the restore point to a secondary repository.
Best,
Fabian

Backup Jobs do not copy data. They write a backup to a single repository. Is there a way to make the backup job to copy to every backup repository available ?

Re: Backup copies across 2 datacenters & availability
Idealy I would like that the backup job write to both repositories, so that in case of a repository outage, at least one repository would have new backup everyday.
In the current state, if the primary repository is down, the backup job doesn't write backups to the secondary repository, because of the backup copy logic.
