Backup Copy Fails

Post by A's_Tech »

Hi all,

I am trying to put a backup copy of one job on a secondary repository on the same LAN, but it continues to fail with "Access is Denied. Could not create "backup job" on [secondary repository]."

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Bergy

Bergy, have you already checked permissions on the target repository? Does the account under which the repository was added still has sufficient rights to write to it?

Also, I’m wondering what type of repository it is. Thanks.

As far as I can tell the permissions used are my own (domain admin) but I'm not sure even how to check that. The type of repository is Windows which is the same as the Default Backup Repository, just on a different server.

Thanks,

Did you try to create a backup in this repository with a regular test backup job? If this works, then I have no further troubleshooting ideas not involving debug logs investigation. Thanks!

Gostev,

Tried a regular backup (created a new job) and got the same error: 9/25/2013 11:08:57 AM :: Error: Access is denied.

CreateDirectory(E:\Veeam Archive\Backup Test to Archive) function call failed.
Cannot create folder. Folder path: [E:\Veeam Archive\Backup Test to Archive].
--tr:FC: Failed to create directory. Directory path: [E:\Veeam Archive\Backup Test to Archive].
--tr:Failed to call DoRpc. CmdName: [FcCreateDir] inParam: [<InputArguments><DirName value="E:\Veeam Archive\Backup Test to Archive" /></InputArguments>].

I'm sure I've done something wrong, but I can't tell where...

Thanks again,

Bergy

Just basic lack of permissions then, most likely.

Lack of permissions where? On the other server? On the Folder itself? Is there a place to enter credentials that will work somewhere in Veeam? What credentials is it using when trying to create the job-specific folder?

Thanks,

Most likely, on the top-level folder itself. Find the server behind this backup repository under Managed Servers, open its settings and check what account you are using. You can also change it there, if you like. You will see the link to the "place to enter credentials that will work somewhere in Veeam" there as well. Thanks.

Thank you Gostev. It was permissions although I'm still not sure why; as a domain admin I should have had Full Control throughout (and indeed, that was what was indicated). Anyways, I changed the credentials under Managed Servers to the local server Administrator where the Backup Repository resides and was able to complete my Backup Copy job.

Thanks again,

Bergy
