Backup Copy GFS
Hi there,
I use Backup Copy GFS to copy my Backups to a remote side. On the Remoteside the Backupcopyjobs will be written to tape using GFS.
Tapes are written on weekend, monthly and yearly.
What ist the best practice for Backup Copy GFS related to Restore Points.
Thanks, adrian

Re: Backup Copy GFS
You can follow below process.
> 14 days of backups at Onsite.
> 7 days/weekly/monthly/Quarterly/Yearly at Remote site.
On remote side, last 7 days of Incremental & each sun/Sat is a weekly Backup (4 copies) & 1st of every month is a monthly(3 copies) & Jan 1st is a Yearly backup
Above is the perfect retention period for remote location to maintain backups for long time.

Re: Backup Copy GFS
Hi Adrian,
It depends on your needs.
One tip is to make all GFS backups(weekly, monthly etc.) on the same day of week, so the backups will be deduplicated.
Thanks!

Re: Backup Copy GFS
Hi Shestkov,
Thanks for your reply.
I have Backup Copy GFS Schedule (weekly SUN, monthly SUN, quarterly SUN and yearly last SUN)
On your Veeam GFS Webinar you have on default:
7 Restore Points to keep
Weekly 4
Monthly 6
Quarterly 0
Yearly 1
Does this mean Backup Copy will keep the last 7 Copyjobs
It will keep the last 4 weeks, last 6 months and the last year. is this correct?
Do i need Backup Copy GFS to work with Tape GFS? or does Tape GFS work on its own?
Thanks alot, Adrian

Re: Backup Copy GFS
You will have a chain of 7 last backups: 1 Full backup + 6 increments. Besides you will have 10 Full GFS backups(half a year there will be 9 of them since yearly restore point will be deduplicated with monthly one)Does this mean Backup Copy will keep the last 7 Copyjobs

Re: Backup Copy GFS
Up to you. If you want only 1 copy of Weekly, Monthly and Yearly backups, you don't need both Backup copy GFS and Tape GFS.
