Backup Copy Job failing to run until late in the scheduled window
Hi Everyone,
I am looking for some clarification on how "backup copy jobs" work with their scheduling. I have set up a backup copy job for 3 servers that run hourly between 6am-6pm. Due to the client's internet not being fast enough, I set up a backup copy job to run from 7pm to 6am.
The issue is that the backup copy jobs based on its time in the logs shows it is not running until around 5:30am, the upload then stops and reports failed just after 6.
I don't understand why the job is starting so late into the window, I would expect that once the 7pm window opens the job should start transferring the days backups? I have read through the documentation but I am still unclear if this is correct or I have set it up wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
Backup Job 1 - Hourly 6AM-6PM
Backup Copy Job - Immediate Copy, 7PM-6AM.
Backup Copy Fails at 6AM after showing it started at 5:37am.

Hi Mark, welcome to the forums.
Just to confirm quick before advising on a course of action here, is the Backup Copy Mode set to Immediate or Periodic? The behavior of the job is a little different in each, so the advice and direction would change depending on the mode.

Re: Backup Copy Job failing to run until late in the scheduled window
Hi David,
The backup copy job is set to Immediate Copy (mirroring).
Is it the case that the jobs need to overlap at the end of the day, at 6pm when the final backup for the day is taken, the Copy job needs to be for 6pm instead of 7pm.
Regards,

When does your final backup job finish? Are you running any synthetic fulls that may keep the backup files locked for a longer period of time? I would also assume you opened a case with Veeam, what does support say?

Agreed that opening a Support Case if it's not done already should be done. The behavior at first blush does not seem expected, but it's best to let Veeam Support check the behavior in the logs. Please open a case and share your case number here. Be sure to include logs from the Backup Copy job for Support to review. (use the 1st radio button, select the Backup Copy job in question and the source job this Backup copy utilizes. You can use ctrl+click to select multiple jobs in the Log Export Wizard)
