Backup Copy Job help

Post by blabarbera »

Hi all,
I've been doing some reading on backup copy jobs, which may be the reason I am so completely turned around and confused (there seems to be an infinite number of directions and opinions). I am trying to come up with long term archiving to tape. I have a daily backup job that runs and keeps 35 restore points and takes an active full backup every Saturday.

Here's what I want to do:
I want to keep 12 monthly backups on disk, and keep 84 (7 years) full monthly backups on tape. How many jobs do I need to accomplish this? What should I set my copy interval to so that I can be sure I'm getting the restore points I want? How do I specify that these should be FULL backups?

Hi Brian,
You need 2 jobs (besides existing backup job):
Backup copy job with GFS retention "monthly =12"
Backup to tape job targeting to GFS Media pool with monthly backups and protection period = 84 months(7years)
All GFS restore points are full backups by default.

Thanks. I'm assuming that the source for the Backup to Tape job will be the repository for my backup copy job, or is it a File to Tape job?

You can specify backup copy job as a source explicitly. Thanks.

You don`t need file to tape job, either specify backup job as a source or backup copy one, as Vladimir suggested above.
Thanks!
