Offsite Backup Copy Job Question

Post by primo42 »

Hello,

we are thinking about a solution, that would replace the current tape drive at the primary location. The idea is to set up another backup repository (NAS) at the offsite location, which would be powered once per month only for minimum amount of time - only for the secondary backup copy job to finish. Afterwards, it would be powered off again.

Currently, a daily backup job and backup copy job are configured between both locations.

Due to low bandwidth between both locations (15 Mbps), the idea is to somehow use the existing backup copy job repository to use the data that already exists on the offsite location. What kind of job setup would you recommend in this case? The amount of data is about 2,5 TB.

Thank you!

Hello primo42

For the NAS solution:
If your Veeam Server is still on v11, you may configure a backup copy job which can do a copy from your "Backup Copy Job NAS" to the "Offline NAS". Please note, if you are already on V12, you have to wait till backup copy from copies is available again. V12 currently doesn't allow copy from backup copies. There will be a second copy from the main location to the secondary location.

I recommend to have a look at immutable backup copies to object storage. You can use the "Backup Copy Job NAS" as a performance tier and add an object storage capacity tier for offloading the backups to immutable backup storage.
Immutable Object Storage is the better alternative to tape as a "offline NAS".

Best,
