Backup Copy Jobs Suddenly not working correctly
Hi,
I've been using a backup copy job to copy our nightly backups to an external USB drive every night so they can be taken off site. This has been working fine for around 5 years.
Last week sometime I noticed that the files available in the USB repository were one day behind the backups that they were copying. On further inspection I think the Backup Copy job was starting before the backups themselves had finished. I've created a new backup copy job set to copy every 1 Day starting at 5am (after the last backup has finished) and for a day or two everything seemed to be going OK.
Yesterday I had an error on one of the servers (Copy Interval has expired) so I ran a manual Active Full which went through fine and I swapped the drives over.
This morning I've come in to find that the Copy job hasn't done anything (as at 0830) and is just sat waiting for the next interval. I'm guessing that this will be the time when I ran iyesterday.
Basically my question is how can I set up the Backup Copy job to use the backups jobs that have just been run? I can manually get it to run eventually by disabling it and reenabling it but if I'm off for a day or two then that won't happen.
Unfortunately we're currently stuck on Veeam v9.5 so logging a support case isn't really an option...
Thanks.

Hello,
It is unfortunate that you are in v9.5 still, which btw take a look at the next page https://www.veeam.com/product-lifecycle.html, January 2022. Of course, the software will keep it working without issues, as long as the OS is supported, etc.
I am saying this as, since v10, we introduced what is called Backup Copy Immediate Mode, which essentially does what you are asking here, as soon as the Backup Job Finishes, it triggers the Backup Copy and copies the new data, plain and simple.
At this stage, nothing I can recommend, other than keep doing what you were doing, knowing your Backup Job finish time, and schedule the backup copy with an interval that starts a bit later, and hopefully the copy does not take more than 24 hours.
Maybe as you ran the Active Full yesterday, was still on the 24-hour cycle and it didn't detect any new copy, but it is odd as you said the schedule is 5 am.
Has your Support expired, despite you being in v9.5?

Re: Backup Copy Jobs Suddenly not working correctly
Hi,
Yes unfortunately we are stuck on vSphere 6 (also end of life I know) so 9.5 is the highest we can go at present.
No we still have support (in the hope that we can upgrade at some point, or if we ever have a DR event and have to start with a new install we can get help on that!) the copy job itself only take 2 hours or so so a manual start isn't an issue apart from when I am off and security swap the drive for me (without checking if the job has done or not).

Veeam V11a still supports vSphere 6.x. Where do you read that it isn‘t supported with vSphere 6.x?Yes unfortunately we are stuck on vSphere 6 (also end of life I know) so 9.5 is the highest we can go at present.

Oh hang on. We are still using / backing up Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 servers, that may have been the reason we couldn't upgrade (this link seems to suggest that a backup proxy would be needed as they are 32 bit?:https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110)

Re: Backup Copy Jobs Suddenly not working correctly
This kb article shows you the minimum version of VBR required for a specific vSphere versionsstaffsmatt wrote: ↑May 11, 2022 11:01 am Is that not what this link is saying then?:
https://www.veeam.com/kb2443
All vSphere versions in the first table are compatible with the most recent version of Veeam (V11a).
Could be the case. We don't support this EOL versions of Windows. Veeam Application Aware processing for Server 2003 was last supported with 9.5 U4.We are still using / backing up Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 servers, that may have been the reason we couldn't upgrade
You can backup this old 2000 and 2003 servers without Veaam's Application Aware processing (Crash Consistent) in V11a, as long as vSphere 6.0 supports them running inside a VM.

Ah OK, upgrading Veeam may be the way to go then. Can I do an in place upgrade from 9.5 to 11? (the server that veeam is running on is Windows 2012 R2)
Thanks for your help.

Re: Backup Copy Jobs Suddenly not working correctly
Veeam Backup & Replication 11a supports automated in-place upgrade from version 9.5 Update 4b (build 9.5.4.2866). So update your product to the said version first before going to v11a. Thanks!
