Backup Copy jobs Waiting for permitted network usage period"
I have a number of backup copy jobs that are running but doing nothing and the status is they are "Waiting for permitted network usage period". I'm a little confused as the schedule set for the job to run is OK. I am wondering what the difference is between the "scheduled time" and the "network usage period" is. I have done a few searches and haven't been albe to find something that explains this.
Your advice and experience of this would be appreciated.

Hello Chris,
Please check if you have backup copy windows enabled in those backup copy jobs.
Thanks!

Re: Backup Copy jobs Waiting for permitted network usage period"
I know this is a post from a few years ago, but I am on v11 and I have the same issue.
BCJ stating 'Waiting for permitted network usage period':
I have a schedule set where all times are enabled (purple) except between 2 AM & 3:59 AM on Saturdays & Sundays, because that is my normal server patch times.
It is now 7:21 AM and job is still at that status.
Hope someone can shed some light.

Can you post a screenshot of backup windows settings? And you do not have network throttling rules configured in the general settings? Anyway, reaching support team might be the best idea here, as it's rather hard to suggest what is wrong with the configuration without seeing the actual environment and debug logs. Thanks!

Re: Backup Copy jobs Waiting for permitted network usage period"
First I will say that this does seem to only be happening on the weekend (no network throttling at that point), but the jobs do have a two hour window (2AM to 4AM) that disables processing.
This done because of patch being done on servers at that time. Done on Friday's & Saturday mornings.
What is puzzling me, is that I am seeing the 'waiting for permitted network usage period' at 7:37 AM (see screenshots on 08-21-2021 (Saturday) at 7:37 AM).
To me the job would have paused between the 2 to 4 AM window, but should be processing at 7:37 AM.
I am posting a few pictures both for dates (08-06 to 08-07 & 08-20 to 08-21). They are both Fri & Sat, and exhibit the same issues.
images to detail the issue:
Network Throttling:
BCJ-Job Processing Window:
BCJ-08-06-2021a: (scroll page 1)
BCJ-08-06-2021b: (scroll page 2)
Screen Shot 2021-08-21 at 7.36.12 AM.png - Taken at 7:37 AM (next day...Saturday) - job still in waiting period
Screen Shot 2021-08-21 at 7.36.54 AM.png - Different Job. Taken at 7:37 AM (next day...Saturday)
- job still in waiting period (I know it also says waiting on new restore points, but also waiting for mermitted network usage).
I hope all this helps.
Lonnie
One last thing...to me it would be advantages if the on screen logs posted the date / time when a line is posted, not the duration. It would be so much easier to see what is happening when.

Re: Backup Copy jobs Waiting for permitted network usage period"
The timestamp column really clears things up!!!
So these BCJs did keep processing, but not at 4 AM, but 4 PM, and also 5:59 PM !!!
BCJ resumed 12 hours later 4:02:02 PM...hmm!

Same here at 4:01:14 PM:

And this one at 5:59:56 PM:

Would this seem to be a bug in time calculation?

At this point it's better to reach our support team and let them confirm the backup window settings over webex. Thanks!

Re: Backup Copy jobs Waiting for permitted network usage period"
Just wanted to post a quick note back about this issue.
Worked with Veeam support on this and seemingly it came down to how the mix of all jobs (Backup Jobs, Backup Copy Jobs) were processing.
Though it seemed that they were all scheduled in a logical manner, the main culprits were:
We changed the BCJ start interval to be right after the WNAW (typically 4 AM). This helped eliminate wait times on new restore points.
Also removing the use of WAN Accelerator (not really needed anymore), removed the bottleneck on the processing of multiple streams (each VM in BCJ is essentially a stream).
These changes just seemed to smooth out overall processing between the jobs and mostly eliminated the noise (alerts) that I was getting.
Thanks much to Damien with Veeam Support to unravel all of this.

- Weekend Network Availability Window (WNAW - Set to disable processing between 2 AM & 4 AM Weekends. This was done to allow server patch management processing.
- Timing of BCJ continuous start interval. Initially was set to occur after Backup Job processing
- WAN Accelerator - Affects BCJs. Only one stream (VM) is processed at a time
