Backup Copy number of restore points
I'm trying to wrap my head around the restore points and how they play into the archival feature.
I would like to do the standard 4,1,1,1 archival points but would like to copy the job every day so that the most recent copy is as fresh as possible. Would that require say 8 restore points or perhaps 14?

Hi, Trent. Please explain what you are trying to achieve in more details as I'm unable to deciper 4,1,1,1 by matching this into either number (8 or 14). Thanks!

Re: Backup Copy number of restore points
Sorry, that's the 4 weekly, 1 monthly, 1 quarterly and 1 yearly.
The 8 and 14 come from 4+1+1+1 and then either 1 extra or 7 extra points. They were just ways my brain thought perhaps it COULD work. I can't really decipher how the system promotes the archival points out of regular points from reading the docs.
Thanks!

Re: Backup Copy number of restore points
To obtain gfs retention, you setup the different restore points in the dedicated section of the copy job. You don't need any regular chain if you only need gfs

Re: Backup Copy number of restore points
Correct. Technically speaking, you do still need to maintain at least 1 "Recent" restore point as the UI will not allow you to set this value to zero.

Re: Backup Copy number of restore points
OK, I understand. I'll give that a go.
I do find that it won't allow for less than 2 restore points, not 1.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Backup Copy number of restore points
Yes, the limit is 2 because of the minimum needed number of restore points for the merge operations, but other than those two you will only care about the GFS points.
