Backup Copy - Restore Points vs GFS Points

Hello,

I'm currently trying to size archive storage, and I've been trying to figure out the behaviour of the "Restore Points" functionality in the Backup Copy job.

If I create a backup copy that runs every 7 days, and then set 26 "Restore Points" plus 6 monthly GFS points, is that a total of 6 months of backups or 12 months? ie. Do the GFS backups run AFTER the "restore points" have filled up, or at the same time?

Hi Alex,

In this case you will have 6 full backup files (VBKs) as per your monthly schedule and regular restore points created by backup copy job runs. Restore points to keep shows how many points should be kept for simple retention.

I understand the difference in the restore points (Full vs Inc), but I was wondering whether the points will overlap (by date) or if it collects the simple restore points first, and then collects the GFS points from the "Aged" simple restore points?

In your case the configured retention policy will not affect GFS restore points.
