Backup Enterprise Manager Exchange Item restore: no results

Post by Pete_Jibe »

Just a simple note for anyone that is beating their head against this BEM feature...

Assuming you're BEM Account w/Admin privileges has been configured with the Exchange "ApplicationImpersonation" role (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/librar ... 40%29.aspx) and your Exchange backup job is using VSS (http://helpcenter.veeam.com/backup/80/e ... _exch.html) and BEM access rights are configured for the restore user (http://helpcenter.veeam.com/backup/80/e ... _exch.html) and you're still having problems querying for a mailbox and restore point....

Make sure that you are querying via the AD LDAP "DisplayName". Not the userID (domain\user or user@domain.whatever).

The clue was found in the %programdata%/Veeam/Backup/Svc.VeeamBES.log file after performing the failed mailbox query.

If there's documentation out there that clearly states this I somehow missed it but I did search about before opening up a support case. The tech was stumped as well but after he pointed me to the log file I quickly pieced it together after seeing the log entry indicating the displayName:

[02.04.2015 14:04:48] <63> Info Filter: (&(objectClass=user)(displayName=scoobydoo*)(homeMDB=*)(!(msExchRecipientTypeDetails:1.2.840.113556.1.4.803:=68719476736)))

Cheers,

~Pete

Thanks! May be we should search both attributes then.
