Backup file is corrupted
Hello Veeamers,
It seems like my backup file (.vbk) is corrupted. I did take a backup of a vm on January 2024 and now when i tried to restore it, i get an error saying incorrect block (Unable to restore VM configuration Details: Failed to decompress LZ4 block: incorrect block header. Failed to download disk 'fc253334-985d-4b41-b9aa-292fadeba9da.vmcx'. Agent failed to process method {DataTransfer.SyncDisk}.)
When i ran extract utility, it says "all instances of storage metadata are corrupted". Anyone has any idea or is there anyway to recover this?
I already reached out to support with case number (#07443990).

Re: Backup file is corrupted
Hi Kevin
Welcome to our forum. I replaced your Contract ID #03 with the case number #07.
Unfortunately, we cannot provide assistance over this forum. Corrupted backup files usually mean you won't be able to restore from that backup file anymore.
Do you have a second copy of your backup where you can restore from? We always recommend having two backup copies, with one stored on immutable or air-gapped storage.
Best,
Fabian

Re: Backup file is corrupted
Unfortunately not since this was created only temporary until we have new restored vm working. but since then we never had to use it so we never knew it is corrupted.
Thanks again for your help.

Re: Backup file is corrupted
Hi Kevin
Our support team may be able to assist with modified agents. These agents will attempt to export at least some of the backed-up data from a corrupted backup file. However, please note that there is no guarantee of success. The outcome depends on the extent of the corruption in the backup file.
Best,
Fabian

Hi Kevin,
This wont help you with your issue you are facing now, but there is an option you can check in the backup configuration to check and selfheal issues: storage level corruption guard: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120
Also, you can leverage surebackup to check if your backups are OK: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120
