Hi all,
i would like to know your opinion on backup large amount of data (clinical image up to 38Tb) stored on a vm.
I just cannot backup the vm because the datatastores are full with all space allocated, and vm backup fail with "no available space on datastore message"
So i'm oriented on File Shares backup option. In alternative i could use Microsoft Agent installed on the vm and use it liek a physical server.
Which option is recommended?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Backup File Share or Agent?
You can modify or disable „no available space on datastore message“ backup error in the global settings. Production Datastore Usage will block backups as soon you hit 5 percent by default.

How much disk space have you left on your production storage? If it‘s some Terrabytes, then you can safely modify the percent setting to a smaller value.
Fileshare Backup is a good option, but it will cost you 76 licenses versus the vm or agent backup with 1 license. (Eventually veeam has some special licenses for your case, but I am not sure about that).
Agent will work too, of course.

Re: Backup File Share or Agent?
Hi Bruno,
The best way to decide on a backup method is to think about restore. If you need to have a possibility to restore the whole server, then backup by Veeam Agent for Windows is a reliable way. If you need to be able to leverage file share recovery options, you're good to go with NAS backup.
Thanks!

Re: Backup File Share or Agent?
Thank you all for replies.... your suggestions help me a lot.
I haven't considered the fileshare licenses expense.
