Backup for PostgreSQL on docker image
Hello experts,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, so feel free to redirect it to the appropriate location.
Can Veeam currently back up PostgreSQL databases hosted on a docker image (with app aware functionalities)?
If yes, then what is the procedure for it?
Thanking you in advance.
Have a nice day.

Re: Backup for PostgreSQL on docker image
Hello,
I'm sure that I have seen a similar question in the Linux agent forum, but I cannot find it.
If you really want to continue with that setup, then it's a scripting task. Postgres has backup scripts in their user guide. They need to be adjusted that they fit into your container environment.
I would re-think the design.
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: Backup for PostgreSQL on docker image
Hello Hannes,
Thanks for your reply.
Does Veeam currently offer a solution to directly back up such PostgreSQL databases that are hosted on docker images with app aware functionalities?
Or are you saying to run backup from PostgreSQL itself using said scripts and then Veeam can take the dump files?
Thanks in advance and best regards.

Re: Backup for PostgreSQL on docker image
Hello,
currently that's possible only via script. https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
The Veeam Agent for Linux that has Postgres support cannot be installed inside a docker container.
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: Backup for PostgreSQL on docker image
Hello Hannes,
I see. So the backups are initiated via PostgreSQL and dumped onto another server where the Veeam agent is installed (can't be on any container) which then takes these files and stores them in the backup repository via regular Veeam backup job. Right?
Thanks!

Re: Backup for PostgreSQL on docker image
as you posted on the VBR forum, I assume that you run a VM.
I also assume, that you want to back up the whole machine. So the dump will be included automatically.
If not, then you can use the Veeam Agent for Linux with file-based backup, yes. Or NAS backup.
