Hi,
We keep backups for 20 days only. Once a server is being decommissioned we keep a backup for 3 months. Normally, we would export the last backup, however, that creates a new copy. Is there a way to keep the last chain of the backup with a 20day retention to 3 months?
Export works great if the server is small in size as it keeps an independent copy but if its a huge 10TB+ server, it can be a pain to write and keep a duplicate. I am trying to save keeping 2 copies, if i can extend a backup from the primary job.
Thanks,

Re: backup hold/extra keep
Hi KK
What is the type of your repository?
Exporting backups to the same location as the original backup files on FastClone-supported repositories—such as ReFS, XFS, deduplication appliances, and object storage—does not consume additional disk space and is processed almost instantly.
Best,
Fabian

Re: backup hold/extra keep
ah - good to know, thanks Fabian. We use Ubuntu XFS hardened repos. So despite the export being shown as a new full, Veeam will use the existing data blocks and just extent the retention from 20 days to 3 months?

Re: backup hold/extra keep
Yes, correct. You're welcome.
Instead of writing new data blocks, your new full backup file (*.VBK) will reuse the data blocks from the existing backup files.

Best,
Fabian
