Backup home lab like a company

Post by Mario Rossi »

Hi, at work we use full Veeam with all the necessary licenses, replication on physical storage, tape and cloud.

At home I have a home laboratory made up of a proxmox host with just under 10 Linux/Windows VMs inside and a Windows 10 client.
No domain controller.

I have a Synology NAS and I use its backup system but I find it decidedly limited.

I would like to use Veeam at home to perform a backup of the Proxmox host and the Windows client on NAS with replication on an external USB hard drive and last month of backup in a cloud space (perhaps object-based).

I would like to use the deduplication, compression, encryption and immutability functionality.

Is Veeam Backup & Replication Community Edition sufficient?
Last night I created a test VM and installed the software but, upon opening, some invitations to purchase licenses appear to enable backup on object storage.
If that's not enough, which license is right for me?
Possibly aimed at private users (no VAT number) and at low cost (very low  ).

Thanks for the support.

Hello Mario,

Community Edition and it's licensing restrictions are designed specifically for a case like yours. Basically you get most of the functionality (backup / restore) limited to 10 instances. I suggest to keep the community license and review the license needs only when you realize that you need some specific advanced functionality. Here is a full edition comparison. Thank you!
