Backup/Import Backup - CIFS/NFS

Post by newpylong »

I am not sure if this functionality will exist in v.5 or not...

Currently in version 4 it seems the only destination for backup and for backup import is Local/CIFS/VMFS. Is there any planned features for backup to/from NFS?

Thanks!

Actually, backup to NFS was possible since version 1... you just have to mount your NFS share to a Linux server or ESX host, add this server to Veeam via Add Server wizard, then select it as backup destination in the drop-down list, and browse to the NFS folder. Of course, if the NFS share is provided by Linux server or appliance, then you can simply add this server to Veeam straight away.

Writing to NFS via Linux server allows us to leverage tiny agent which keeps synthetic full rebuild operations local to the server versus over LAN.

We also supported backup from NFS since version 1, however version 4 added the Virtual Appliance processing mode, which provides significantly faster performance than network backup mode with NFS production storage.

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice, I figured it out. NFS performance is MUCH faster than CIFS as expected. Thanks!
