Backup Job Folders
Hi,
Here's a simple feature missing from Veeam that would make our life so much easier.. backup folders !
under Jobs -> Backup
Please add the possibility to create logical folders so we can group our jobs.
Right now we have close to 50+ jobs and it's getting really messy in the console.
Thanks
Samuel

Hi Samuel,
Can you please tell me how you organize you current backup jobs? How many VMs are in the job and how large your current infrastructure is?
Thanks for the feedback!

Re: Backup Job Folders
Hyper-V, 100+ hosts, 1k + VMs , 5+ sites
Not all VMs are backuped up via Veeam at the moment, but we are already seeing this as becoming a big issue down the road
Usually we backup per CSV , so anywhere between 10-25 vm per job.
We would like organise the job by datacenter location, and then business unit. We do not need the exact same layout as within VMM.

Re: Backup Job Folders
That's a pretty large infrastructure, I was just thinking on how to re-organize your existing jobs to make its management less painful. If we had containers, would you use the same configuration for them or it is more a UI enhancement request? Thanks again!

Re: Backup Job Folders
I was referring to job folders, the feature you're asking for.
I'm wondering if alternative VM groupings in existing jobs can solve the problem of messy UI or not. This should reduce the number of configured jobs.

IMHO:
alternate VM grouping won't make any difference. We really do need folders and sub folders

[MERGED] Veeam backup folder structure
Hi,
Will it be possible in future releases of Veeam to order veeam jobs into a folder hierarchy ?
This in case you have a lot of jobs defined

Hi!
Could you specify your use case? Did you mean starting several jobs at the same time manually?
Thanks!

Re: Veeam backup folder structure
We would like to make some folders with regarding different RPO and RTO times where corresponding jobs will be placed in.
In a backup copy job, it would be nice if you could refer to this specific folder with all jobs in it.

Re: Veeam backup folder structure
Thanks for the reply, we will take your request into consideration!
What I can suggest for now is to add corresponding prefixes for the jobs` names and use the search tool to filter needed jobs.
Thanks.

Could you please specify the request, do you mean the ability to choose a set of jobs(folder) as a source for the backup copy job?lowlander wrote:In a backup copy job, it would be nice if you could refer to this specific folder with all jobs in it.

Re: Backup Job Folders
Thanks for the clarification, I see your point. Could you specify how many VMs and jobs do you have for me to understand how critical the requested feature is?
By the way, VMs for backup copy job can be chosen not only from jobs but also from infrastructure as well as backups. You can use VM tags to combine VMs for the backup copy job.
Thanks.

[MERGED] : Feature request
It would be nice to create folders to place jobs in. I would have a DR folder I place all the DR jobs in, SQL folder for all the SQL jobs and so in.
I am just redoing all my jobs for ver 9 and thought of this.

Backup Job Folders - another vote
Add another vote for this feature.
I would like to separate my jobs based on certain criteria, for example regular backups jobs, specialized jobs (certain long term retention on some folders, etc), and temporary jobs.

Re: Backup Job Folders
I need this too. It will be very helpful to put backups in folders and categories ...
Right now too many jobs in a bad fashioned sort .. just all above and under each other
Even we cannot move jobs and put relative ones underneath each other

How many jobs do you have? Do you use per-VM backup option?
Thanks!

Hello.
Not sure who you were asking specifically, but around 30 right now. I anticipate when we are completed setting up it will be around 100.

Re: Backup Job Folders
Another vote for this ability.
We currently only have about 13 jobs, but just started using Veeam a few months ago. Going forward this would be especially useful for archive and legal hold situations where we really don't want those jobs clogging up the primary interface list.

Re: Backup Job Folders
We have 40 jobs and it's starting to get ugly. Subfolders under Jobs would be a huge plus for us.

Re: Backup Job Folders
IHAC who has a large environment and many, many backup jobs. They greatly desire a folder feature to help organize backup jobs by type, eg: application type (SQL) and/or environment (Prod). Ideally it would allow nested folders.
Without that, my cu has a flat list of 200+ backup jobs which is ugly and difficult to manage. Being able to organize backup jobs into folders seems like an intuitive feature that *should* have been Veeam YEARS ago. What is the status on this feature request?

Hi Jim,
I cannot share any details or ETA, but we have some work going on in order to simplify the management of multiple jobs within the UI. Stay tuned.
Thanks

Re: Backup Job Folders
@Vejete have they considered using job view filters in v10? You can create filters based on the job names.

Re: Backup Job Folders
We did try the job view filters yesterday. It's better than nothing, but it does require logical and consistent job naming which the cu is doing anyway.
What we are missing is the ability to have tree view nested folders and the ability to have dissimilarly named jobs in the same folder.
Long story short, we still want folders for a tree view organization of backup jobs. I presume it's on the product roadmap based upon the comment from @wishr.

Re: Backup Job Folders
Right, "logical and consistent job naming which the cu is doing anyway" is a good practice for any environment. Folders are not currently on the roadmap, however we will keep improving filters functionality, so my advice for all customers will be to continue ensuring the consistent job naming.
