Backup Job SLOW compared to Replication Job

Post by bunger »

I have been testing and comparing the performance of replication vs. backup jobs in our environment and I am finding that backup jobs run significantly slower than replication jobs.

Here's the environment:
VEEAM v5.0.02
Veeam is running on vCenter, which is virtualized on ESX 4.1, latest update
vCenter is running on production ESX server
destination is datastore on backup ESX server, also running ESX 4.1, latest update
source VM is an XP machine and its size is about 75GB

The replication job averages about 120MBs.
The backup job averages about 30MBs.
Both targets are the same datastore on the backup ESX box and both are using Virtual Appliance mode.
The backup job is configured as Reversed Incremental with data deduplication enabled, compression set at Optimal, Storage is optimized for local target, and changed block tracking is enabled.

Is this type of performance difference between replication and backup jobs to be expected?

thanks in advance,
Bill

Hello Bill, no it is not expected. There should be some difference in these two jobs, I would suggest looking through the log files with the help of our support team.
