I currently backup a number of SQL instances using Veeam Backup and Replication which work fine, i assume Veeam is application aware? can anyone confirm if it also works with Oracle Databases, i.e can i back them up online am i able to do granular restores like i can with SQL?

Jeff, yes, Veeam B&R is application-aware. Please review this existing topic regarding backing up Oracle VMs.
