Hi. I got a tip from a Veeam certified service provider as a small tweak to enable the "per-machine" feature at our remote locations as well. Among other things, so that the performance of our monthly backup copy is better...
I took one of the locations for testing and hoped that I could finally split the job with a total of 15 VMs to single backup files - instead of one big file. But somehow that didn't really work. I am of the opinion that I have discovered the solution. But I would like to verify it here again.
If I have understood correctly in other posts, it can work despite activated function only if also "Active Full" is used.
Because I just noticed that my predecessor has activated the option "Incremental" as backup mode for the day jobs - but at the same time also the Synthetic Full on Friday. The job includes 12 VMs.
Only for the monthly job Active Full was activated for every last Saturday of the month.
Accordingly, I should certainly adjust the day job accordingly, so that no more merge takes place there?

Re: Backup per Machine not working
Hi David
Do you want to activate per-machine chains for the primary backup target or the backup copy target?
If there is an active full planned end of month, then the new backups starting at the last saturday of the month will use per machine chains. Or you can manually create an active full.

Please Note:
Starting in VBR V12, backup copy jobs will only use per machine chain.

Correct, an active full is required to switch the backup chain type.If I have understood correctly in other posts, it can work despite activated function only if also "Active Full" is used.
You don‘t have to change anything in your job settings.Only for the monthly job Active Full was activated for every last Saturday of the month.
