Backup restored to new server loses trust relationship.

Just put a new esxi 5.5 server on the Network. I tested our Veeam backup by restoring a windows 2012 server on to it. I shut down the original server and started the newly restored machine. The server starts ok but reports that it has lost it's trust relationship. The backup was from the night before. I checked the clock times and they seemed to be in sync.

Any thoughts why this should be the case ?

That is due to the machine changing its Active Directory Machine Password.
You just got unlucky with your test. Default machine password change occurs every 90 days.

I agree with Chris and believe the server changed it's password after the backup but before your test. Just unlucky timing. There is a simple fix outlined here: http://implbits.com/active-directory/20 ... o-fix.html

I faced the same issue. I did the backup on Friday and tried the restore on Tuesday (after 4 days). I used the link provided by michaelryancook to fix it. But my question is: Does the server change its password automatically? because it never asked me to change the password in the time period between the backup and restore.

Computer account password refresh is automatic process that happens between computer and domain controller without notification to or interaction with the user.
