Backup SAP Oracle vServer
Currently I'm testing a trial version of Veeam Backup & Replication, see if it fits in our business requirements. In our enviroment I want to backup Suse Linux Enterprise 10.x with SAP & Oracle running on it. Backup a complete machine is no problem, but is SAP in combination with Oracle support, because SAP uses Logical Unit of Work to write it to the Oracle database.
I want to know the best practise solution, and if it is fully supported, so i don't have a corrupted SAP database when i'm restoring the vServer.

Re: Backup SAP Oracle vServer
Basically you should be following this procedure to backup Oracle database running on Linux machine. In this case your SAP application should be in consistent state when you attempt to restore it:
(1) Pre-freeze: enable backup mode of Oracle
(2) Create snapshot on Oracle VM
(3) Post-thaw: remove backup mode of Oracle
(4) Veeam backup of the Oracle
On top of that, there are existing similar topics which might be useful:
How to backup Oracle
Create a MAXDB (SAP) backup
Running Oracle on VMware (webinar)
Hope this helps.

Re: Backup SAP Oracle vServer
I would recommend watching the recorded webinar on virtualized Oracle backup and recovery with Veeam. This is exactly what this webinar is discussing, providing various backup approaches to choose from, as well as best practices gathered directly from other Veeam customers who are doing this today.yrrah2010 wrote:I want to know the best practise solution, and if it is fully supported, so i don't have a corrupted SAP database when i'm restoring the vServer.
The webinar is under "Do not ask Gostev" banner on this forum

Well...this is a pretty old thread and of course we do not have this banner anymore.
Anyway, all webinars can be found on our website:
