Backup Search Server Requirements

Post by jmartin38134 »

Presently I'm running VBR v6 and have setup two backup proxies (physical with Direct SAN access), setup a VM as a Backup Server (with SQL Express) and Enterprise Mgr. I asssume at this point I shouldn't load the Backup Search on this VM and wanted to use another server for this component. Where can I find the server requirements (CPU, RAM, Disk Space) for the deployment of a Backup Search Server? Can it be a VM?

Hi

The requirements are based on the requirements for Microsoft Search Server itself, please see the below quote from the Enterprise Backup User Guide
To learn more about hardware and software requirements to Microsoft Search Server, see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/libr ... e.12).aspx (for Microsoft Search Server 2008) and http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/libr ... 05370.aspx (for Microsoft Search Server 2010).
The document referred to can be found on the link below but I think the two links within the quote have the answers your after :)
http://www.veeam.com/vmware-esx-backup/resources.html

Hope that helps

Also, please note that with v6, integrating with Microsoft Search Server is optional. Guest file search will work out of box without it. However, we still recommend using it for larger environments (a few hundreds of VMs) for better search performance. Thanks!

OK. I was looking the wrong documents. I see it now in the "Veeam Backup & Replication 6.0 Release Notes".
Thanks!
