Hi community,
I have a small environment where I backup up a single server to a NAS system in the same building. To safe the data in case of a bigger desaster I copy everything backed up by the first job to a second NAS on a remote site via VPN.
This works fine until the backup files on the remote site have to be merged into the full backup file. In this case Veeam seems to read the files over the WAN link and write them back again, so merging takes a significant amount of time.
What do I need on the remote site to offload the merging? Can I use a small PC with two harddrives and install the Veeam backup proxy role on it?

Re: Backup Server to remote NAS / merging backup files on remote site
Hi jfink.
I have a feeling that you need a proper Gateway Server and Mount Server set for second NAS(not proxy).
And yes, any Windows machine on the remote site, closer to said NAS, will do the trick.
Hope that helps!
