Backup to Disk repository, Tape and Cloud

Post by mtav »

Hello,

we currently use Veeam 11 to do backups to a local disk repository with subsequent backups to tape.

Now we plan to also do backup to cloud, and from my understanding this shouldn't be a problem when using a backup copy job for the cloud backup while still doing the backup to disk and tape.

So it should work like this:

- Make Backup to disk repository
- Make Backup to tape
- Make Backup to cloud (using a backup copy job)

Is there any problem with this i'm currently not aware of?

Hello and Welcome to Veeam R&D Forums!

Yes, it's a valid approach from my point of view. The only detail to take care of is the schedule: be sure that tape and backup copy jobs runs do not overlap.

Thanks!

What cloud storage do you have in mind? At the moment object storage can't be targeted with a backup copy job. You would have to configure a scale out repository with capacity tier.
This will change with the next release v12.

Hello,

I thought the question was about Cloud Connect backup copy but if it's about object storage, then Max's suggestion is correct. The Copy policy will copy backups to an object storage as soon as they appear on the Performance Tier.

Thanks!

Hello,

thank you for your answers. So far object storage isn't planned and we haven't chosen a suitable cloud storage so far, so we would have to look for a suitable provider to create a scale out repository there.
