Backup to Shared Folder
Hi all,
I am having problems getting backup copies to use a Shared Folder on a NAS in a different network.
Even reading the manual, I am a little lost on how to set this up.
It talks about needing a Gateway server. This is what I don't understand and cannot find any information on what is needed to create a Gateway server.
I have hacked my way from what I could work out. I now have a server that is a Gateway server in the same LAN as the NAS. I am able to back up to it and restore ok. But would I would also like to do is copy orphan vbk files to the NAS and be able to import them into B&R. When I go to Import, I don't get the option to browse to the NAS share to import the vbk.
Cheers,
Brad.

Re: Backup to Shared Folder
As NAS share itself can't run a datamover, you need to have the so-called "gateway server" - a windows based machine that will run a datamover and through which the data will be written to a share. It's recommended to have a gateway server closer to a share.
When you open a import backup wizard, there is a browse button, using which you can specify path to the share and backups that are located on it.
Thanks.

Re: Backup to Shared Folder
I am still not sure if I have set the Gateway up correctly or not. And as I said, there does not seem to be clear instructions on how to deploy one.
Thanks for the import help. All good now.
Cheers,
Brad.

Re: Backup to Shared Folder
When you read the user guide, consider a gateway server as being identical to a Windows repository server, with the only difference being that the storage is connected to the repository server via LAN instead of being local or direct-attached.

You seem to have specified everything correctly.I am still not sure if I have set the Gateway up correctly or not.

Re: Backup to Shared Folder
Thanks that makes more sense that it is a like a Repository Server.
Cheers,
Brad.

Glad to hear that those concepts are clearer now for you. Should other questions arise, feel free to ask.
