Backup Validator for Copy Job

Post by LMSII »

Hi, I wanted to know if it is possible to use Veeam.Backup.Validator.exe to validate a backup copy job.

When I run it I always get errors:
C:\Program Files\Veeam\Backup and Replication\Backup>Veeam.Backup.Validator.exe
/backup:"COPY-LUN-USB"
Veeam Backup Validator Version 12.0.0.0
Copyright (C) 2023 Veeam Software Group GmbH. All rights reserved.

Cannot find last point for backup "COPY-LUN-USB".

C:\Program Files\Veeam\Backup and Replication\Backup>Veeam.Backup.Validator.exe
/backup:"COPY-LUN-USB" /date:03.07.2023
Veeam Backup Validator Version 12.0.0.0
Copyright (C) 2023 Veeam Software Group GmbH. All rights reserved.

There are no restore points for backup "COPY-LUN-USB".

Hi Luca

Yes. Backup Copy Jobs are supported by the validator. Please check the right format of the parameter in our user guide. It looks like you only have provided the job name.

even if i add VMNAME it does the same thing.

C:\Program Files\Veeam\Backup and Replication\Backup>Veeam.Backup.Validator.ex
/backup:"COPY-LUN-USB" /vmname:AD_20212R2
Veeam Backup Validator Version 12.0.0.0

Cannot find last point for backup "COPY-LUN-USB".

In the user guide there is an example for two scenarios. In your command, I'm missing the documented format. You don't provide the child jobs or the VM name in the /backup parameter as documented.

Could you maybe share what sort of backup copy job do you have?
Then I can give you a recommendation on how the command must look like.
- immediate or periodic?
- new or old backup format?
- Source Job Name (the one you are doing the backup copy from)
